Allen Simpson and Nancy Vincent

    Allen (Alan, Allan, Alen) Simpson was born about 1775. According to the 1880 census record for his daughter, Emeline, he was born in Kentucky.

    John Simpson was born about 1804 in Ohio.

    An Allen Simpson was on the 1809 and 1810 tax lists of Butler County, Ohio.

    Margaret Simpson Crawford was born March 13 1809 in Ohio.

    Sarah (Sally) Simpson Lofland Thurston was born about 1811 in Ohio.

    During the war of 1812, an Allen Simpson served from September 14 to October 14, 1812 in Captain Jacob Bell's Company and was on the list of Finley's 1st mounted regiment of the Ohio militia.

    Nancy Simpson Jones was born about 1815 in Ohio.

    Alfred Simpson was born before 1820.

    The family moved to Indiana where Allen Simpson was one of the early owners in Coal Creek and Wayne Townships.

    In 1820 there was an Allen Simpson in Posey Township, Franklin County, Indiana. The household consisted of

    a man and a woman between 26 and 44
    a boy between 16 & 18
    2 girls between 10 & 15
    3 girls and a boy under 10

    There was a David Simpson in Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana in 1820. The household consisted of a man and a woman between 26 and 44 and 3 girls under 10. There was also a Thomas Simpson in Jennings, Fayette County.

    Allen Simpson was on the 1822 tax list of Posey.

    Emeline Simpson Wright was born about 1826 in Franklin County, Indiana.

    They probably also had a sons named Allen and William. Allen was made guardian of Emeline after her parents died.

    John Simpson married Maria Bastion on August 16 1828 in Franklin County, Indiana.

    Elizabeth (Betsy) married Abner Jones on April 23, 1829 in Franklin County, Indiana.

    At the time of the 1830 census, the household was in Montgomery County, Indiana. The Allen Simpson household was the only Simpson household in Montgomery County. The household consisted of:

    a man & a woman between 50 and 59
    a man and a woman between 20 and 29
    2 Girls between 15 and 19
    a girl under 5

    In 1830 there were 2 Alexander Simpsons, a William R. Simpson and 2 John Simpsons in Franklin County.

    Margaret married Nathan Crawford on November 17, 1831 in Montgomery County, Indiana.

    November 12, 1832, Allen was made guardian of Jeremiah Vincent son of John Vincent.

    Sarah married William Lofland on August 9, 1836 in Montgomery County.

    Early court records for Montgomery County, Indiana show on March, 1838 there was a case of Cathrn Simpson v. Jon. (Book 2, page 79)

    In 1840 the household was in Union Township, Montgomery County. It consisted of:

    a man & a woman between 60 and 69 - Allen & wife
    2 men between 20 & 29- Alfred & William
    a girl between 10 & 14 - Emeline

    A young John Simpson household (between 30 and 39) was also in Union Township. (John and Maria)

    There was a John Simpson household in Crawfordsville that consisted of:

    a woman between 60 & 69
    a man and a woman between
    a boy between 10 & 14
    a boy between 5 & 9
    a girl and a boy under 5

    Alfred married Eunice Lofland on February 24, 1841 in Montgomery County.

    Nathan Crawford was the administrator of Allen's estate.

    In May 15, 1843 Allen Simpson was made guardian of 19 year old Emeline daughter of Allen and Nancy. John Simpson was surety.

    Emeline married Johnson T. Wright on October 5, 1848 in Montgomery County.

    Franklin County, Indiana was formed in 1811 from Dearborn and Clark counties. Brookville is the county seat and was settled in 1804.

    In the War of 1812 (1812-1815) the United States declared war on England because of trade restrictions, impressment, and British support for Indian attacks. They signed the Treaty of Ghent on December 24, 1814 after reaching a stalemate.

    Kentucky was originally a Virginia county and included the lands west of the Appalachians. In 1780, it was divided into Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties. Kentucky officially became a state on June 1, 1792.
